The First Baptist Church is one of the oldest churches in the town of Petersburg.  It's long and historic legacy involves surviving the Siege of Petersburg (1864-1865) during the Civil War.  It was this siege that ultimately led to Lee's surrender at Appomattox.

Although the church was fortunate enough to survive the destruction of the Civil War, it could not survive the forces of nature. In the early 1900's a fire from a lightning strike caused heavy damage which led to a restoration of the church.

The windows in this auction were discovered stored in the lower level of the church, in a room that was rarely used. These same windows are shown in the background of a photo of the Men's Bible Class dated 1920.  Pictures of these photos have been provided for your reference and review. These windows likely date to the early 1900's. However, we cannot be certain that they are actual salvaged remnants of the fire.

In addition to their beauty and overall draw for collectors, this is an opportunity to own a true piece of Virginia history.  We are humbled to offer these rare pieces for sale at auction.
