We at Farmer Auctions are honored to present the living estate of Howard Feiertag. Born in Brooklyn New York, the youngest of 10 children, he served in World War II from 1945 to 1948. Upon his return, he entered Michigan State University under the GI bill to study police administration. He worked briefly as a prison counselor in a maximum security prison before being called to serve in a P.O.W. camp as Commanding Officer in the Military Police for two years in Korea. When he returned home he began a position in insurance investigations. 1962 he was a junior member of the chamber of commerce and was recruited to work as manager of the then new Charlotte N.C. convention bureau.  He then began to build a local Blacksburg legacy at Virginia Tech, setting the standards for corporate hospitality, tourism, marketing and meetings.  His work in the hospitality field set standards, started further education programs and changed perspectives on hosting corporate meetings and conventions.  At 95 years young he still assists the instructors and mentors students in the Howard Feiertag Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Virginia Tech. His home is a reflection of who he is, where he came from, where he has been and the legacy he created.
